Tis the Season to Stay Active: How to keep your fitness up (and still relax!) these holidays.

4 Dec 2023

Our long, hot summer is just around the corner and with our social season amping up, combined with end-of-year fatigue, it can be easy to let our fitness habits (and gains) slide.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. You can have your social cocktail and drink it too with our tips on how to keep active while enjoying a healthy dose of fun and relaxation.

Switch your lunchtime or evening workout for early morning
Get up and get it done. Tick your daily gym session off first thing in the morning and have the whole day reserved for wherever the wind takes you. Hanging with family and friends at the beach, by the pool, or cocktails at that fun new venue will be all the sweeter, knowing your fitness mahi is already well taken care of. Take advantage of a quieter gym and powerful all-day endorphins.

Get smart with your calendar
Pre-Christmas calendar clashes are plentiful at this time of year. And to be fair, you have two options: one being to skip the gym in favour of fun - honestly, no shade on this option - we get it.

Or, two, prioritise your workouts as an important, non-negotiable time out of the day for you to energise and recharge. You could even dial up the social side of exercise, get a group of your fit fam together, and make it a social sweat session.

Whatever you choose, know that while a few weeks off won’t affect your overall progress, your muscles might tell another story when you return to your regular programming.

Cut your exercise time short
You don’t need anyone’s permission to reduce your workout, and any time, even 15 minutes on a treadmill, still contributes beautifully towards your goals more than zero time does!

And if you’re not feeling an exercise session at all, drop into the gym anyway. You might change your mind when you arrive, and our reception team is always up for a good chat!

What’s the plan for next year?
The new year is famous for new habits, especially where exercise is concerned. Plan a review of your programme to start the new year off with a bang! Or book in a one-off session with a PT and let them put you through your paces. It could be a taste of new exercise possibilities for after the holidays.

Stay active out of the gym, too
A beautifully hot summer means outdoor activities galore. Why not turn your socialising into active opportunities? Beach cricket or rugby, a walk through one of many coastal or forest tracks, or a swim or kayak out on the water can easily tick off your daily activity in fun ways too.

And if it all gets a bit much, recover from too much peopling with a yoga or barre class
Amidst the holiday chaos, it's crucial to find moments of peace. Our popular yoga and barre sessions can be a welcome break from the frenetic pace of the season, helping you maintain balance and focus.

We wish you and your family a happy and safe Christmas break from all of us at Habit Health. We will be open right through the holidays, only closed on Christmas Day.
